Work Experience

Marathon Tours, Inc. in Boston, Massachusetts (1980-1982)

Two-man company arranging tours to marathons throughout the world. I organized, sold, and led trips to China, the Soviet Union, Bermuda, Canada, London, and other destinations.

Credit Suisse Investment Advisory in Tokyo, Japan (Industry Analyst, 1989-1992)

Each month, we prepared a 25-40 page economic report on one Japanese industry, varying each month among steelmaking, life insurance, semiconductors industry, etc.. I was particularly responsible for the international comparisons of each industry, focusing on the weak and strong points of each industry vis-a-vis its international competitors. I was also responsible for comparing the strongest Japanese companies in each of these industries with their strongest overseas rivals.

Boulder Wave, Inc. in Boulder, Colorado (President, 1993 – Present)

I moved to Boulder, Colorado, in early 1993 following six years of living in Tokyo. In November 1993, I founded Boulder Wave, Inc., with a Japanese partner. The company was founded to assist international athletes with their altitude training. The company focuses primarily on long-distance runners, with training camps around the world, including Boulder and San Diego, USA; Font Romeu, France; Falls Creek, Australia,; and St. Moritz, Switzerland.

Each year, about 200 athletes and coaches use our services, and since 1998 the company has assisted over 3500 athletes and coaches. We have arranged and supported training camps for athletes from Japan Italy, Romania, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Morocco, South Korea, the United States, South Africa, and other countries. We provide a full range of training coordination services, including housing, cooking service, physical therapy, course tours, and anything else needed by the athletes and coaches.

The high success of our athletes has given Boulder Wave an international profile. We are now also contacted to provide services for student groups or non-elite athletes. For example, during the summers of 2003-2008, Boulder Wave coordinated Boulder training camps for Asics Corp. as part of their "Road to NYC" promotional campaign, bringing middle-of-the-pack runners from Japan and Korea to Boulder to train as the elite athletes.

Since 1998, Boulder Wave has expanded into athlete management, currently representing about 40 international athletes from England, Japan, Kenya, Moldova, Romania, Scotland, South Africa, and the United States. Since the company was founded, women marathoners assisted by Boulder Wave in their training or through athlete representation have won 30% of the marathon medals (10 of 33) awarded at the Olympics and World Championships. We have represented such Romanian medalists as Dita Constantina, Simon Lidia, and Cioncan Maria.

Running: Member of Greater Boston Track Club (1981-1987), training under the top coach Bill Squires. While living in Japan and working for Credit Suisse, I continued to run and race as an athlete, winning several of the biggest Tier 2 races, such as the Lake Yamanaka Half-Marathon and the Sankei Sports Chiba Half-Marathon. Continue to run recreationally for health and enjoyment.

Languages: English and Japanese (full working ability); Russian and German (limited working ability).
